A Few Questions
« on: 31 December 2005, 20:10 »
Hi all, havent been on for a while, been home for christmas, so no internet connection.. Was driving home to Wales (200miles) and blew a hose, about 50 miles from home, so had to get recovered back to england - 130 miles  Took a while! Sat for around 3 hours in -5 conditions  Cost £200 to put right + a few others..

Anyway, now i have the car back i was going to do a few things... Fitting the fog lights into the big bumpers. Is this possible on an '88 1.3? Only, i went to take the bumper off, and theres very little room behind, not enough for fog lights  Not sure if possible, or if i need to mod?

Second, when at the garage they said i could help myself to some bits from their scrap GTi laying around... So, i did, but i want to go back to get the arch trims, but dont know how to get them off, help appreciated

And, the car has BBS alloys, fair condition, missing two centre caps, what would these be worth, with ok"ish" tyres...?

Thanks in advance for all your help

You need to take the steel valance off the 1.3 to fit the big bumper. To get the wheel arch extensions off you just drill out or grind the heads off the rivets around the wheel arches. There are also 1 or 2 screws under the sill at the bottom.

Ok cheers, that was my thought regarding the arches, just wanted to check :)

Is it wise/safe to take off the valance??

Ok, got the arches no probs (gave them a hard tug, and off they popped:D) cost a tenner, bargain  I also decided to leave the wheels, being a student cant afford a lot

REgarding the fog lights.... i had a look under the car and it appears that the part in question (Valance??) has in fact got the radiator bolted onto it, and something else, not sure what it is! The bit that runs from the slam panel to the valance i think. Any ideas...?!

I think there are 5 screws on the valance thingy and the centre one needs to be screwed back in to secure things mounted to it. I think its just the centre one that needs to be put back in......

I forgot, the plastic arches are also screwed to it either side.

Surely if i remove it, the things that are attached to it wont be supported, even if i put the bolt back in?
