just to confuse u more why not look at bora's? they seem way cheaper than golfs and are practically the same car right!? Id  also get urself down to the auction, see if u can pick yourself up another classic 'rich' bargain

ive spotted a few 51 plate pd130 bora sports (70-90k) for 5 - 6 grand over the last few months (looking for a replacement for the thirsty 1.8T daily runner)

i found that you wont get anywhere near that with a golf unless its a right dog or a lot older.

worth keeping in mind that a PD engine will be way more expensive to repair than a common rail should anything go wrong fuelling-wise. although there is the advantage of easy tuning
