New member how much to pay for a 16v?
« on: 31 December 2005, 17:37 »
Hi I am new to the site and currently in the process of getting a MK3.
I am trading my MR2 for the car in question but am interested in what price you guys would put on the car IÂ’m considering getting:

ItÂ’s a P reg 3dr 16v dark blue/purple near standard (mk4 style lights, badge less grill, KN filter) all standard parts are included though.
ItÂ’s got a full service history and done 79K and has a years Mot and 3 mths Tax
It is in very good condition and the only fault is a crack in the front spot light in bumper, other wise looks mint. It drives well (although is a little slow compared to my current car) and I have checked all the problem areas (thanks to the guide on this site) seems ok.
The guy selling it paid £4k about a year ago from a dealer but I don’t really think its worth anywhere near this is it? I was thinking more like £2k.

Any help greatly appreciated

First things first.  Condition is EVERYTHING.

I recently sold my mint 1998 R plate 8v for £2,150

I think £2,000 - £2,500 sounds right for a decent P plate 16v. :undecided:

Bear in mind that to many people, mods (however subtle) reduce the car's resale value.  You mention Mk4 lights, debadge etc - those things may appeal to some people, but to a lot, it's a negative.   But I still think £2000 - £2500 sounds right.

1998 Mk3 GTi 8v - now sold :(

2003 BMW 320d 150bhp now bought :)
2002 Seat Leon (almost a Mk4!)

Sorry, to avoid confusion I have found the right car. Details as above, but IÂ’m not sure on its value.
Good condition P reg 16v with 79K.
I have been offered a swap for my current car a heavily modified MR2 worth about £2500. In my opinion I think I need some cash my way, although the chap whose golf it is thinks his golf is worth over the £2500 value placed on my car.

Thus just need to collect some opinions on what the above car is worth from fellow golf owners, so we can reach a deal on price.
Thanks for the help so far.

£2000 max and only coz that mileage is low! And I hope its got ABS and Air-con if not then lower the offer.
