Superchips. Or are they ?

I've got a standard ( apart from air intake ) 2 ltr 8v mk3 gti and was thinking about getting a superchip conversion. My mechanic reckons they are fantastic and for the amount of money they cost ( about £175 ) you simply can't go wrong with claims of more bhp more torque and more importantly a much smoother more useable power delivery. He says the vw mapping is crap and that previous customers who have had such a conversion cant believe the difference it makes.

well when i had my mk2 16v, it had a superchip in it, and can say it run smoother, and was better on fuel, but power wise, not much in it.  thinking of doing it myself on my mk3 gti, but not sure yet, like you, i'd like to see if anyone else has dun it.  BBR in brackley do good race chips. :smiley:

A superchip in a mk2 16v? Are you sure mate? Mk2 valvers dont have a fuel controlling ecu so its impossible to chip them. All fueling is controlled by the mechanical metering head.

As for getting you mk3 2.0 8v chipped. My advice is as follows. The biggest problem with that engine is digi lag i.e a hesitation between you slamming y foot down and the engine going raaaaaa! So dont shell out all that cash on a superchips chip, instead look on ebay and find somebody selling an equivelent chip for about £25 that will do exactly the same as the superchip. The digi lag should be improved or eradicated and you will gain a little more power and a smoother drive.
