never looked at parkers before, i know as vr6 has mentioned never a 2.0 16v in mk4 form, the only reason i can think of extra figures for the 2.0 115 bhp is 3dr,5dr, and cab?

Yeah - maybe the cab & 5-door's extra weight slows that baby down.

If you want my opinion the 2.0 8v is a shopping trolley and isn't worthy of a GTI Badge

I guess this "1.8 normally aspirated" thread shouldnt become a mk3 vs mk4 debate but still... We had a black R-Reg 8V Gti in the car fleet at work a few years ago. Obviously with it being a company car it was unmodified. I drove it and im my opinion it wasn't a very 'hot' hatch. Straight line speed and acceleration were very ordinary and the handling was interesting - it had a stiffness when you went over bumps in the road, as if the shocks were quite stiff, but if you launched it in to a corner there was as much body roll as in a mk4, but with less comfort. Also the engine/exhaust were quite noisy and rough, it just seemed like a lot of noise for very average acceleration. I think I was mainly disapointed because for a car that was fairly recent it didn't seem to have progressed that much from 1980's hot hatches, in any department. Again apologies to any mk3 owners (Im sure most people in this forum like mk3 VR6s!) but then this is a mk4 forum!
