It can be done. I did it on my old 1.3 mk2. The new unit will fit fine as they are the same size. The problem is that the rev counter will need to be wired and I think the digi clock too. I went to a electrical specialist and they wired it all in for about £65. That was back then though. It took them about 3 hours.

I got a complete instrument unit with rev counter and speedo from a scrap yard and had that wired in.

I would get it done, i loved it when it was in. Beats that big clock anyday!

I forgot. The original unit will have one cluster of wires going into it and the replacement with the rev counter should have 2. At least thats how it was for me. The car wiring will need to be split and you will need to know which wire needs to go where

Yes, all you need to do is get a set of rev counter clocks from a MK2 and it will plug straight in and work, the only thing you need to check is if you need the early or late type.  If your hazard switch is on the dash you have the earlier electrics and will need a set of clocks with 2 plugs, if your hazard switch is on top of the steering column you need a set of clocks with 1 plug.

bampotman: Oh no why did you do that?!?!  You could have just got a set of rev counter clocks from a MK2 with the same number of plugs as yours and it would have plugged straight in & worked as above!

I didn't know man! Just call it being young and foolish. I remember I got the rev counter from the scrappy before checking the one I had. When I did get the old one out i thought to myself oh crap!  :undecided:

the hazzard is on the steering column so as long as the dash has 1 plug it will fit and the rev counter will work straight away
will i need to recallibrate the speedo ???

Try to get a set of clocks with the same top speed as yours, or swap the speedo from your clocks to the new set.  This also means you keep your milage :)
