Head gaskets gone!!!!!!!!!!
« on: 28 December 2005, 12:45 »

boiled up on the m6 , and the hard shoulder was bnlocked off so i had to carry on driving till it opened up again...... oil temp got up to about 165 . This is on my mk2 16v gti.

Not had the head taken off yet but does anyone think it would be worth getting a stage two head... are they worth while.

Has anyone else had this happen.... i guess someone must have, did it do much damage to the head or do you think a skim may do it.

Anyone with a head for sale would be a bonus as i might as well get one just in case it is bannanad or cracked.

Thank you darren

Thats very high oil temp. Personally, I think I would have stopped regardless, just moved the cones and waited for free recovery. I would think, at the very least, you will require a head skim. I've tried various methods for checking a head for warp............the best one, IMHO, is engineers blue and a sheet of glass............works a treat and if its not too bad you can use that method and skim it yourself

Good luck mate

theres a guy on ebay selling stage 3 heads for 16v mk2's, although he told me he ll port and polish anything if you can supply it (all porting is matched i.e. inlet and outlet). heres an old link i was watchin until my gbag started playing silly buggers....

hope this helps..

i reckon with oil temp of 165 itll be fooked. my headgasket went and my oil temp ran at around 125 for 2 mins and it needed over 3thousands off of it (thats a lot - you start clipping valves at around 3-4 ths.)  :nerd:
