steamy engine!!!
« on: 24 December 2005, 11:09 »
1990 valver...
hope its nothing serious here goes::

on cold mornings when engine has warmed up I get steam coming from under bonnet, after have a look it looks like its coming from the radiator, the middle area where the fan is. The car doesn't really use any water though, and doesn't overheat (touch wood!!)
Do I have a small leak on the radiator?? Should I stick some radweld in it??

what do you all reckon??

cheers

Never used radweld, always thought that it was just delaying the inevitable and tried to fix the problem properly if I can.... Try having a look with small torch, the  light can sometimes show a glisten of water where the leak is.  There's a rad on ebay at the mo (item 4598536205), not sure if it will fit a valver tho, else try gsf or a breakers.  I'd check all the pipework thoroughly first myself, and get under the car if you can with it running for a good look if it helps...

rads are not that expensive at the best of times, £50 should see with a new one and motoring on in no time.

Use radweld, nothing wrong with it, people just don't know how to use it.
Always bleed the system and set the heater to hot after putting radweld in.
Radweld is fine for fixing very small leaks.

I wouldn't use radweld if I were you, it fixed my radiator for about 2 months then it started leaking again.  It also clogged up my heater matrix :(

Don't bodge it, fix it properly.
