Golf 1.9 GT TDI 150bhp over-revving problem
« on: 23 December 2005, 12:06 »
Hi,

I have had this problem for ages and when I took it to a VW garage they couldn't find a fault!!  Basically, when I'm in 3rd, 4th or 5th and put my foot on the gas, the revs go sky high and then drop back, but I don't seem to get any more speed.  It is happening quite regularly now.  It is almost like it is revving but there is no power there for those few seconds until it drops back to the normal level revs for the acceleration.

Any advice much appreciated - it is really beginning to hack me off!

Cheers

That would be my first guess, too. Is it alright for a bit when it's cold, then get's gradually worst as it the car warms up/further you go?

Did the stealers even test drive it??? Or did they just plug it into the diagnostics?

Yeah it sounds like a clutch 4 def. But everyone is going to say that and im sure you have considered it. Have you had it checked tho, the actual clutch, just incase? If not, as the person  above said take it to a dealers/garage and make them drive it when u know its going to happen! Hope u sort it out soon.

like the others said it sounds like the clutch easiest way to tell is warm her up then put it in 3rd and lift the clutch it should stall if everything is ok but if it struggles or moves forward for more than a second and doesnt stall straight away its the clutch.
