mk4 or corrado dash?????
« on: 18 December 2005, 15:58 »
HI everyone, i've had a mk1 golf gti for nine years now, and have been modifing it for the past three.
As standard i've converted a 20v turbo lump under my bonnet along with all the drivetrain  , now comes the tricky part,
I can't decide whether to install a mk4 dask with all the instrumentation and complete mk4 wiring loom
or
Custom engine management with corrado dash and modified mk1 wiring loom to suit.
If i go for the corrado dash, is the speedo a digital signal because i've already installed the mk4 gearbox which has a digital output?

If I were you Id try to get a mk4 dash in it and possibly the r32 style stets. Will bring it right up to date and should look a little specal. Not seen it done likr that in a mk1 so might well turn more than a few heads while ur at it!

U got any pics of it?

thats the best mk3 ive seen..ever! its just clean and subtle..

I would have thought a mk4 dash would require an awful lot of cutting down to fit into a mk1 - the corrado option may end up the better looking of the two, whilst still giving the car a more modern feel... personally i think the best interior for a mk1 GTI is the standard one - nice and simple, and it really suits the car - but your's sounds like you're so far past the standard point that anything could work

should have some pics soon.
Funny enough i've already trimmed a mk4 dash to fit, but getting it to mount with the bulkhead - heater and wirer the thing up seems to be a bit of a challenge, so thought the corrado dash could save me some work and get my beast back on the road sooner.

Your man to speak to about dash swaps is our resident forum user called Dizzie, he would be the best person I know on here to offer some advice. He put a mk3 interior into his mk2 and had to do a bit of fabrication to make it fit.
......now officially dubless.

mk4 dash would be a slag to fit. A lot of cutting. You don't see any of them for good reason ;)

The corrado one has been done before and looks very good IMO. I'd go for that. You could always fit the mk4 clocks in there if you wanted to.
