88 gti 8 valve stalling
« on: 05 November 2003, 22:47 »
i've just bought a mk2 eight valve and tho i was gonna sell it 'cos i wasn't keen-it's started to grow on me, it's just begun to stall at tickover and it seems to be 'hunting' real bad, i got caught out and had to put unleaded in it-which coincided with the sh!t running, could this have caused it or is it likely to be something more sinister--also it needs a new clutch-how much should i expect to pay? thanks in advance

Check all the hoses and pipes for vacuum leaks, esp the pleated pipe to the throttle body.

Is it a k-jet or a digi? If it's k-jet then the octane of the fuel could effect the running as the ignition timing needs to be retarded to run on 95 RON.
However, if its a digi then I'd plumb for the old favourite, the ISV or vaccuum leaks:-

Try Stuart at Leeds Eurocarparts for the clutch (See discounts section). However for a rough idea:-
