Advice on damaged Golf please
« on: 11 December 2005, 11:58 »
Hi, my friend has offered me his 1 owner mk3 8v GTi Golf, P reg 45k, full VAG history 5 door for £600. The catch is that the front wing has been hit by another vehicle and has bent the front nearside wing in and the nearside front door. More worryingly is that the rear nearside door has raised above the shut line by about a cm towards the rear of the car which looks to me like the chassis my have been bent . This is why my friend is offering it to me so cheap. Aside from that the car has air con, electric roof, a years MOT and Tax on it. I'll try and post a picture later but is is worth buying or will it cost too much to repair? Your superior Golf advice would be appreciated on this. Btw does anyone know how much it costs to straighten out a chassis at a bodyshop?

i repair em for a living m8, it sounds like it's bent or twisted, my advice is offer him £250 and break it for bits, by the time you've paid to have it repaired, you mught have well have gone and bought a straight 1, plus, no matter how good it's history, it's now been in a bang......

my advice in a nutshell............leave it....

:undecided:Umm I thought as much, its just difficult to let this one go. On first look theres very little damage until you take a closer look. How much do you reckon it will be to straighten it out?

all depends on where in the country you are, but expect to pay about 150 up north to get it jigged and about 500 down south.....

Hey Hardcor,

Thanks for the advice, 500 down south...ummm ok, I live in Bucks so am looking at that kind of figure. Since my mate hasn't claimed on his insurance this car hasn't been recorded in any way so that wont be a snag either. Does the cost of a re-jig go up depending on the severity of the damage? Your advice to steer clear seems logical, but if the damage is limited are you saying there could be a whole load of other things wrong too, I mean it passed an MOT in Nov so surely anything major would have been picked up then wouldnt it?

they coyuld stick it on a jig and it be straight, could be the door hinges that are bent, hard to say without a good look round it or a few hundred pics from all angles, if it's not recorded, just stick 2 doors n a wing on it, and bang it out.....then buy a 3 door...
