« on: 10 December 2005, 18:52 »
ive been thinking about upgrading my turbo ive got a 2000 1.8t agu with a miltek cat back system k&n panel filter and a baileys recirc dv will the turbo upgrade give me a lot more power, and is it worth doing? also what else would i need to get, are the manifold, oil feeds, intake pipes and down pipe the same  would i need to upgrade my intercooler I'm planning a remap sometime in the near future to get the most out of it. is there anyone thats done this before? any help/advice would be much appreciated rich

depends which k04. the k04-001 would see you about 235bhp, and you can keep the standard feeds to the turbo. a front mounted intercooler would be beneficial but not necessary. at that kind of power you would want it breathing better so an uprated downpipe + cat (milltek do one to suit your cat-back system) would be needed... you might want to consider upgrading the brakes/suspension too. you could get the same from a k03s turbo which you can probably pick up a lot cheaper.

if you want the k04 from an S3/TT then its a whole different ball game. 260-170 bhp but you need the manifold, injectors, oil feed lines, custom downpipe etc etc..

either option would require a custom remap. to be honest though i'd suggest you have a go in a stock turbo car that has been remapped, you'll probably find its quicker than you'd imagine... add the downpipe/hi-flow cat to your current mods and get it remapped im pretty certain you'll be happy with the power. the way the new map affects the way the turbo spools means you get huuuuge low down torque even from the standard turbo.. wheelspin city !

Couldn't agree more!!! I had my re-map from Jabbasport on a completely standard 150 bhp AGU, & now sit pretty with 202 horses

Wheelspin is a nightmare in the wet..... Improves your throttle control, though! My 2 front Eagle F1's (new in May), have now only got about 3.5mm left!

Torque & power is now unbelievable.

I agree with Topher, re-map what you've got now (maybe get the downpipe/cat if you're feeling flush - No need, IMO). I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I can even pull away from Civic Type R's (albeit fractionally) now.... Never a chance, beforehand.

My mate in his 306 Gti-6 used to pull away from me.... Not anymore, though!

ps If your not happy with that, then maybe look at KO4's etc.

I pretty sure once you've had a re-map with Jabbasport (£475 all in), then you can go for further re-maps after extra mods etc for only £100.

ok thanks guys i think ill leave the turbo alone and just go for a remap and maybe a sports cat.
ive also been thinking about changing my k&n panel filter the ones i have in mind are the k&n typhoon kit, carbonio intake, or a jabbasport with heatshield, has anyone tried any of these? any good or bad feedback would be a big help.

to fit a k04 to a previously k03 or k03s engine you will need:

The turbo (duh)
the manifold
the intake pipe
the oil and water feedpipes
the original downpipe which will be used to fabricate a new section to mate with your exisiting exhaust

Bolt all that on and away you go. It'll probably run afterwards, but you really need a remap. Amd, Stealth, Jabba, take your pick. After swapping that you'll be looking at around 230-250bhp after a remap. To get up to the 270-280 and maybe more you will need to lower your compression ratio. 225 TT pistons are a straight swap, but you'll need to rehone the block unless u have silly low miles on both block and new pistons. You'll also need some higher flow injectors. The grey ones from the same 225 TT are good enough to 300bhp @ 4bar. You'll need a 4bar fuel pressure regulator obviously.

the remap is what makes it all work. all the mods you do to the engine without remapping it are worthless in power gains. Remap your standard AGU and you'll see 200bhp minimum - 220bhp max on the k03 without running more boost than is safe.
