Being honest Rich,  i'm surprised you bought the car with problems like that.
No.1 rule good body essential, any other repairs no problem.
I'm not keen on welding rust damage, but if you reckon you can sort yourself then go for it. Personally i would never have bought the car in the first place.

I couldn't agree more mate. It was dark and chucking it down with rain when I went to look at it and I didn't really fancy crawling under it in those conditions. What I decided at the time was that it was cheap enough to recover the cost in parts should I find problems like this.

Had a bad night at work last night and didn't get to bed until 6am this morning so I'm postponing any further work until tomorrow and getting some chores done today.

Decided my axle stands don't extend high enough so just treated myself to some 2ft 6 tonne ones :smiley:

Scrap it mate, thats a very critical area to be weakened by rust.
I wouldn't be happy with any of my family running round in a car like that   :undecided: :cry:

Going to have another look at it tomorrow.......access just how important that area is. Judging by those pictures and what I have looked at so far, it does look very important and therefore I agree. Possibly time to cut my losses.............especially as it appears I have now picked up another 1.3 Polo today for free :smiley:

Sounds like its an older square back but its had one owner from new and has only done 60K!

The rust is on the section that mounts the rear axle, can't get more serious than that.
If you are going to weld that you will need to drop the fuel tank off, too much hassle  :sad:
Wouldn't Hazel be happy with a polo?, they are cracking little motors.
Where the f**k do you get these cars from?  :laugh:

Just a thought that has crossed my mind...........is anyone here interested in taking it on? Spares or repair. TBH, I really don't have the time.

Its cost me £200 so far, so make me an offer, obviously less than that, and drive it away.........very strong engine, drives very well.
