strange noise;DRIVING ME MAD!!!!!!
« on: 03 December 2005, 15:26 »
hi there, first of all i would like to say what a great site this has been for me.Helping me sort out problems out with my car over the last year an a half. Now we get to the problem ive been having,it first started when i was on holiday in wales.I was driving along when i started to hear a strange noise, like a wooing type of noise which would get louder and quieter.I put it down to the front wheel bearings as i changed the back ones when i changed the rear discs a few months back. When i got home i booked it in and had them both changed.Had the car back then still no change so i thought it may be the cv joint, put the car on full lock left  and drove in a circle and the same to the right but no clunkin or knockin.Taken back wheels of checked both bearings both seemed fine no exess wear greased them both up an re tightend them and still the same woooing noise. Was going down the motorway the other day taking a left bend an about 60 when the noise got alot louder but when got on the straight to noise dropped off. Also on certain road surfaces the noise goes, the noise is coming from the drivers side front and ive had my car up with the wheel of and had a look and the only thing i can see wrong is the rubber on the anti-roll bar conecting link has gone, could it be this vibrating?could someone please help me with this as its driving me MAD!

how can you check for that?what would be the signs if i got it off and looked at it?the noise is coming from the drivers front but when i went round a left hand bend on the motorway at 60 it was more of a grinding sort of noise but when the road straightend up the noise dropped off.Is this what you were getting?

".....wooing type of noise which would get louder and quieter."

I know what this is!

It's the aliens hovering overhead in their saucer, trying to abduct you as you drive along !

or maybe a front bearing is in fact on the way out.

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.

Get that rubber on the anti roll bar fixed and see if it still happens.

Other than that not a clue!

when ur accelerating its getting louder cos the drive shaft is spinning faster wen go round bends the weight ov the car is putting load on the drive shaft which will cause it to grind cos ov the weight transfer,if it is knackered it will be grinding the teeth on the shaft which will be causing the noise on it get it checked by a mechanic cud be the solving ov ya problem mate

changed the anti roll bar connecting link and still no joy, though the noise took abit of time to come back once i was drivin it again.this mornin there was ice on the road and as i went to pull away my wheels started to spin,as this happend i could hear a type of bearing rattle???so when i got home from work i jacked the front of the car up put it on axle stands and and gave it some gas but there was no noise at all there was a slight steering wheel woble when i incresed the revs, wheels have been balanced could it be wear in the steering rack?only seems to make noise when there is load on the wheel, can a cv joint be on the way out without the knocking noise?dont realy want to take it to the garage as i could fix it myself if i only knew what it was.
