HELP ME...DROWNED CAR!!!

Drove round a bend and basically went through a puddle too fast......car stopped and no longer starts. Turns over fine but wont fire up. RAC sent some local garage out and they said there is only spark going to one plug. Said the crankshaft sensor could be shot. Not had a chance to look myself as too dark, but before I shell out for a new one any ideas what else it could be?? (also posted in mk 3 section)

If I were you bud I'd give the car to the garage to fix. Get them to plug a diagnostic tool into the car, it'll probably tell them what to fix too.

you could spray some wd40 round the engine to try and dry it out, have you checked the dizzi cap??  :smiley:

I drove a car through a flooded ford once  :rolleyes:, and i hydro locked the engine causing the cambelt to slip a couple of teeth ,it phooked the motor

My mate has a few 8valve engines (digifants), that i am sure he wont want too much for them, might be worth replacing the engine if its not going to be cost effective to fix. i think one was re-built fairly recently. he is a member of the forum (ryoungmk1gti).

Know how you feel, drove mine into a flood a couple of weeks ago. Had a home-made induction kit with intakes  below indicators, and forced in so much water that when I took out the pipercross panel filter I had fitted it dripped water like I'd soaked it in a bucket of the stuff. Still ran but very lumpy, now in garage, compression test shows problem on one cylinder, probably a bent con-rod. Will be running standard intake system until next summer after it returns to action. good luck with yours.
