intermittent electrical problem
« on: 01 December 2005, 10:43 »
I have some kind of intermittent electrical problem thatÂ’s just started tonight, please can anyone give me an idea what it might be..

The symptoms: Turned key in ignition and NO red lights showed on dash and car wouldnÂ’t turn over totally dead, lights will not work either. So I rocked the car forwards and backward in gear and all of a sudden ignition lights showed and car started up.. maybe starter motor you may think but then.. But got home and tested again, all was fine for 7+ starts and once again it did the same thing and just suddenly it all came back without me doing anything?

I have checked battery terminals and they were fine but cleaned all the same.

Is it pointing to some kind of earth strap fault? If so where can I find any straps apart from on the battery?

car stereo set station also reset themselves..

Any help with this odd problem would be greatly appreciated chaps.

Thanks

I'd say you're on the mark with the earth strap mate. Either that or the battery itself?

Check the main feed from battery to starter, make sure there are no shorts, then check the earth straps.
There's usually an earth strap from the gearbox.
