1985 Gti 8v k-jet upgrade?
« on: 27 November 2005, 00:17 »
Hi all,
Been a while since Ive posted anything, I have a question for you all, I have just got my 8v k-jet Gti back on the road after a few months off due to m.o.t. and Im delighted.

What I want to do now is give her that bit more grunt, I have a a couple of hundred to play with maybe a little more if need be, what can I or a garage do to her.Ive trawled through the previous posts and cant really find a difinative answer. I understand I cant get an induction kit but maybe a decent cold air feed will help?Im really quite a novice to this so be gentle with me  there must be something that can be done to the engine?

Many thanks for your help guys, really appreciated.

You can put a K&N airfilter in & swap the cam for a road/rally which will give you a couple more bhp for a couple of hundred.

My 84 K-jet already has this in, but i'v put mine it to have the head polished & replacing the bottom end with a 2.0L

As above, But with a decent exhaust system. One thing you dont want to be putting to much fast road mods o a high mileage engine. Best thing really is fit 2lt block to it That Will give you more power than fitting cams, filter and exh.

Only thing to note bout the 2.0 ltr, is you'll need to swap the dizzy from the old lump onto it.  You swap the gear off the bottom of the 2.0 dizzy onto your old one, and you'll need an adaptor plate (from TSR?) so it will fit properly :)

If it was a digifant like mine then the MK3 dizzy will  just plug in & work, bet thats not much comfort to you though eh ;)
