Mk2 90 spec side mouldings with 88 8v arch trims
« on: 26 November 2005, 19:13 »
I picked up some 90 spec side mouldings today but I have an 88 GTI 8v (small bumpers)
My intention was to cut the arch extension bits that align with the side mouldings to size and use some bumper repair filler on the edges (I believe the mouldings are hollow that join onto the arches).
I don't want 90 spec arches as i'd then also need the plastic sill that joins between the arches and I don't want that look.
I also don't want to remove arches as I can't afford to get the holes welded up and the panels resprayed at the moment.

What do you guys think of my plan?
I know 3M do a bumper repair kit that is an epoxy type resin but I can't find anyone who does it. I also need some texture spray. Can anyone help me with where to get these or an alternative to the 3m stuff?

I also need 1 red GTI badge for side moulding so please give me a shout if you have 1 spare or 2 in good condition

Thanks
James

hey james, i've got a red badge sitting here looking at me which you can have. the rubbing strips will work no worries and you should be able to get away without needing to use any filler. if you do a neat job of it it should be ok.

haven't got a clue about the 3m stuff, sorry mate!

Cheers matey i'll have that off you then

I'm sure those mouldings that are joined onto the arches are hollow you know, if I cut them and they are I have no choice but to fill the edge otherwise it can be seen and look toss.

Hi Starmix, do you have the original arches that are the non 90 spec ones still?
