Two of my GTI customers have rear flaps fitted. I haven't had a close look at them but I've heard nothing negative about fitting or appearance???? :undecided:  The computer will tell your dealers parts dept that they are not for GTI but i've seen two cars with them fitted.! The first was when we first found out that the fronts don't work but had already fitted the rears and gave the customer the option of keeping them for free or having them removed, the second, I sold them as rears only. - The customer wanted to prevent spray up the back of the car. Very strange and dissapointed  to hear about your dealers inability to fit them. I'll speak to our service dept tomorrow and ask the question.

My parts man has no knowledge of any offical GTI front flaps fitted. That's not to say there won't be though. :undecided:

Don't give up on the flaps yet. Unless the car or flaps have changed, they will fit. Bear with me......

Thanks for all your advice VWmd, its good to get the point of view from a dealer who cares enough to find out and tell the truth. My dealer gave me a set of flaps to try and the front certainly need modified and may be ok. I only tried the backs briefly against the car and they did not seem to follow the bumper line too well therefore it would be good to hear from your service department. They may need modofied and again it would be good to hear from someone who has done it.

I will def not give up on the mudflaps as I am determined to keep my car as clean as possible and therefore protect the paintwork too. At the moment it is covered with a salty spray from the roads up the side and rear of the car which I am sure mudflaps would cut down considerably.

Update on the mudflaps.

I now have rear flaps fitted to my car after a few hours work over the weekend. They are the flaps for the stock Mk V Golf but do not just fit straight on. The bumper shape is slightly different therefore the fixing at the bottom of the flap has nowhere to fix to so i had to be inventive. The left one sits perfect imho and the right currently has a little gap between the flap and the side of the bumper but I can maybe still adjust it a bit - already fitted it 3 times but will get there. I'm happy enough so far and there is no reason my dealer could not have done this job but because its not a simple place srew in already provided hole they could not be bothered. For anyone else wanting mudflaps and has been told they fit the GTI that is not exactly the case but they can fit with some effort.

Now my attention needs to be drawn to the fronts, may be easier although I'm not sure. Need to work out how to fit around the sill extension.

VWmd maybe you can help here. I have been told by an independent parts supplier that he can now order GTI direct from factory in Germany and I assume he means they are genuine parts. DOes your parts guy have any futher info on these, would save me a lot of hassle cutting and shaping standard Mk V flaps.

I'm sorry to have apparently mislead you. I've spoken to my technician here who does PDIs and he's still adamant that he has fitted rear flaps on GTIs. In his words, they were no more difficult to fit than on any other Golf. Sorry if they have proved more problematic than that. :embarassed:

My parts manager still has no idea about genuine GTi flap though....... :undecided:

Sorry

Anybody got any (new) news on proper Gti mudflaps?

I will be putting them on as soon as become available.  My dealer mentioned that rear ones were available, but not front (which is where most of the mess is generated).  I said I would wait until a full set became available.

I got a front set from an independent parts supplier which are genine VW parts. They were sold as being for the GTI but do not really fit. They seem to be for the Golf Plus as that is on the label on the pack although from memory it says Golf / Golf Plus so they must be designed for some Golf. They are just the same as the standard Golf part with a bit cut out to accomodate the sill. In a few investigations they will not really suit but maybe with some work and modification they will be ok. Rears already fitted, just use the standard Golf parts, little bit of work needed as mentioned earlier in the post but are fine really. Help a little with keeping the back cleaner but not the complete answer.
