How much?
« on: 23 November 2005, 12:21 »
Have been offered the chance of buying a MK111 GTI 8v but was wondering how much everyone thinks it may be worth.

97 or 98 R one owner from new.
Black 5 dr
around 40,000 miles
has always been looked after mechanics wise although the bodywork has a dent here and there.

TIA

Recon your looking at £3500-£4500 maybe a bit more seeing as it's low milage, but you would be better off getting a 16v depends on insurance i suppose and your age. 8v group 14 / 16v group 16 i have an 8v and it's not a bad car despite what you may read or hear, depends what you want it for ain't gonna win no traffic light races in a mk3.

Thanks Count-Von

Thought that maybe around the price and i know they want book price for the car so i think i'll find a garage that will let me have a look at the Glass's guide.

Currently have a MK11 16v so i guess its a bit of a come down for me

oh how i love that car, but sadly its come to a time when i need a new car and this has just fallen at the right time.

Think that estimate is a bit high, even with that low mileage!
The dents outweigh the mileage - I mean thats at least a grand for a good full respray!
Unless its full VAG service history it dont count either.

I would offer £2000 - £2500

Also depends what equipment its got. ABS, air-con????

Cant really see any Mk3 being worth more than £3k now.

I always go on what I paid for mine, which is nearly 3 years ago now - £2900 for a 16v but with 98k miles.

Thanks Count and Len

Pretty sure its not VAG history or at least not all and i'm gonna have to check which options it has...at least it gives me an idea on what to bargain with when\if making an offer

Its a buyers market at the moment mate, so a car is worth what you want to pay!

If its really nice and you really want it, dont appear too keen but dont be too hard and fast on the price.

Good Luck.

Woza!!

MEGA over priced man. Thank god your not a financial advisor.

If I was you gfc, have a look around. Auto trader, plenty of nice cars, and if you search your local area, in one day you can view 5 / 10 and see that you get for your money.
