plug gap

whats the best gap for a mk1 golf 1.8 gti? i dont have an owners man and was wondering a. whats the gap ment to be b. has anyone found a diffent gap to be better? Cheers

Off the top of my head, I'm fairly certain its meant to be 0.025" although these days I tend to use the triple electrode plugs that don't need gapping.

0.025" should equate to 0.635mm

I emailed ngk and the gap is actually ment to be 0.8mm which is what they come gapped as apparently but thanks for the reply

That equates to 0.031".....seems a little large to me but there you go :-/, without my manuals to hand I'm not going to argue with NGK ;)

I just did a quick search here:-

They recommend a spark plug gap of 0.028" for a 1984 1.8 GTI Rabbit (Golf)

If I get time later I'll see what it says in my manual.
