Airbag Fault

Started me 2000 1.8T this morning and a load beep then " Airbag Fault" is showing on the dash.... Is this going to be expensive to fix as I am really skint at the moment and already have a bad slow puncture to get sorted before the bad weather that I can't afford

Not sure if this will work, but maybe try & disconnect the battery for about 30 mins, 7 see if it clears it??? :undecided:

could try that like, at least worth a try, but will that reset the code on my radio as I'm not sure I ever got that when I bought the car

I disconneted my battery the other day and didnt have to put the code back in for my radio for some reason, maybe there is a back up battery in there? Just had to reset my clock on the dash.

I think the code in the radio is switchable on or off :undecided:

My airbag light came on so I turned it off with the VAGcom (?) software.
This worked for a few weeks so I turned it off again and it's never come back.
Weird..

Car is due a service at 77,000 and has just over 76,000 on there now so thinking on just putting it in for a service as I have a slow puncture that needs looking at as well before the Winter,

So the question is now, should I get it serviced by VW (and how much is that likely to cost including airbag fault and tyre) or should I just take it to a local garage (but will they be able to fix the airbag fault).
Its the first service since buying the car so haven't got a clue how much it will cost

most dealerships use local tyre places to sort punctures, take the figure they got charged then add a bit to it before handing you the bill, so i'd avoid that :grin:

not sure about using any old garage, but if you have a vw specialist in the area then i'd recommend that before you let the dealership YTS trainees near your motor :laugh:
