MOT d@mn & bu99er!!!
« on: 14 November 2005, 12:43 »
Hmmmm just got the verdict on my cars mot...........I guess as it passed with flying colours last year I should have expected it.
Full exhaust required from manifold back
Complete brake lines both sides front to rear including rear flexi pipes

Just to make matters worse new mot laws mean if you take the car from the testing station you have to pay for a re-test, no more 7day free re-test (I didn't know about that).

So now my car is stuck at the garage until it's done and I'll be in for a hefty bill

I would check em now chris, it's a real pain not being able to take the car from the garage. My mot doesn't actually run out until dec 10th but I'm not prepared to pay another £44 for the retest. It's all to do with this new computerised mot scheme, I guess other people have experienced the same???

Cheers Rhyso

Today was gonna be the last drive before laying it up for winter, turned out to be a pricey one!

MOT's! my first vavler failed 3 times before i decided to sack it off!

failed on mainly the rear brakes being inoperative! but then just as i took it to its 3rd re-test it made a knocking noise that i thin was the drive shafts so the bloke said it was a "death trap"!

Surely you can still put your car in a month early and drive it away if it fails? If it passes I assume you still get the 13 month ticket?

Yep that's correct Rich, I could have driven it away today as it still has a valid ticket. However as soon as it leaves the station then it will require a full retest (unless the failure falls into a category of minor failures listed on a gov.co.uk site I was browsing earlier) unlike it used to be where they would just re-check the failure points.
Yes you do still get the forward dated ticket if presenting you old one with a month remaining.

Here's the list of free re-test items:
http://www.motester.co.uk/retest.html

The main site has some interesting info on the new computerised system.
It seems that the tester is logged on while carrying out your test and the system logs all details including how long the test takes. The benchmark figure is 50minutes and if a tester constantly conducts tests in under this they are likely to be investigated. Sounds like they are really clamping down on the mot industry.
Totalled up my bill and including the test it looks like I'm in for about £600, mind you I pity the poor sod that's got to change that downpipe.
