crikey!!

in the Golf + magazine the other month, there was a 16valve turbo in there with 260 bhp, and i have a sneaky suspicion that it was a turbo techniks jobby, either that or it was uolt with turbo techniks parts!

I asked the seller and here's what he said

Hi,
It would be better to lower the compression. It would work on a stock engine but possibley without much gain.
The eaisest and cheapest way to lower the compression would be to use 2 headgaskets, or a thick copper plate sandwiched between gaskets. these come on on ebay in the US quite often, are are fairly eaiser to find on the net.
The original turbo technics used offset small ends on the rods, weird way of doing it.
You will need to find somewhere to take the oil feed from as well, but thats no major hassle.
Power wise, you will be looking at around 200bhp - i think the original one was just under - stealth racing took over supplying the kit when TT stopped - they modified it slightly by using a different ecu and another set of injectors - i believe they got it to around 210bhp.
Biggest gain is in the low end torque - you'll end up with a car that has the low end grunt of an 8v with the top end power of a 16v. Its quite a smooth progression - not a masssive shove in the back that you'd get with a bigger turbo. Very driveable.

Hope thats of some use,

Tom.

 Not really tom no, a tuned 2.0 16v shoud do that without the turbo  :lipsrsealed:

nah i think i'll stick with one of these

i think a way over lowering the compression so its just right for turbo is to put a mark 3 1.0 16valve bottom end on your mark 2 16 valve (the" your mark 2" was used hypertheticaly by the way)

sorry that should of said 2.0 16valve bottom end, not 1.0, how pointless would that be!

I did wonder why you said 1.0l

I haven't actually fitted the 16v yet, i'm thinking of building one of the G60 based ones i keep reading about then i don't have to worry about compression  :nerd: just the engine management

I was pondering the othr day about how it would work because i dnt think u can but a 16valve head on a g60 bottom end coz the compressions wrong (i think)

I tried doing a search on the web for the G60 Limited and there isnt much about!
I think one day i might have a stab at a Supercharged valver, but my extremely limited mechanical attributes are going to hinder my progress somewhat! Lucky i have a couple of mechanics as mates!!

I've read quite a bit about 16vG60's on vwvortex, apparently it gives you the perfect compression for turbo's
