Hi,every time we get a good downpour the passenger footwell in my 1990 Valver fills up with water,I have looked into the origin of the leak and have come up with the possibility that the plastic panel on the slam panel is too short or there is a bit missing,there seems to be no protection  from the elements for the heater motor intake and hence when we get a lot of rain it comes straight through the bonnet vents and straight through the heater motor and drips on to the footwell in the car,anybody any ideas as it is driving me mad.cheers swadnod.

The scuttle panel should completely cover your heater intake, if not then yes bits missing. Hard rubber ones usually go for around £20 on ebay.  Also check the drainage channels aren't blocked (little holes either side of the metal tray under the scuttle cover) and check the seal on the bottom of the rubber heater intake as sometimes this goes.

Reckon it will be the scuttle panel though  :smiley:

plastic door seals where damaged on mine got water everywhere in the car , all done now tho thank god, its worth checking them, even if they look a bit old and ropey its worth replacing them.

have had exactly the same prob a couple of weeks ago, replaced the plastic scuttle panel with one from VW (£25), resealed all the door panels with new plastic sheet and duck tape - now all is well!!

rowlers,does your new scuttle panel cover go all the way across and covers your heater intake...

The scuttle cover should look like the pic a few posts down here:

As you can see it covers the fresh air intake :)  While youre there check the drain holes at both ends of the scuttle area, if they're blocked the water will back up and seep in.  Might be worth smearing a load of grease round the base of the blower intake grill :)

lookiing at that pic,i have got about a foot missing off my scuttle panel cover,that has got to be might leak,i have already located a cover on eb**,cheers for the help guys.swadnod.
