Hi folks..

I am in the process of purchasing my first GTi (8V) and have a few questions.

1) I need to replace the rear parcel shelf as the one at present is bowed at the back.  Are the aftermarket versions as good or should I look for an original.  The reason is I want to fit my 6X9's from my last car and was concerned about the weight issue.

2) The computer is always registering 0:00 (time i guess) and wondered if it is just a connectivity problem or could it be something more serious.  The end stalk doesn't scroll through the options either.

3) One of the hydraulic tappets are knocking from cold until it warms up.  Is this easy to fix, or should I just live with it until the next major overhaul?

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to know what I have instore for my when I collect it next Wednesday.

they do that - they're hyraulic - the oil needs to get to the top of the head to stop them "clatering"

make a stealth shelf - as already posted on this msg board elsewhere. MDF is perfect for fitting your 6x9's to.

It's locked up. Pull out the fuse to reset it.

Hey Hammy

I have  MK2 shelf knocking about. It is black, has ancient speakers in and is missing a rubber holdey-uppey-thing.

But its freeeeee if you want it lol

my parcel shelf in the back of my 85' GTI8V was sagging on one side, so i just got a piece of wood and a few nails to brace it a bit more, can't even see it unless u look under.  No more saggy parcel shelf  ;D
