Ever raced an MX5?
« on: 30 October 2003, 23:30 »
God I leave you lot for 5 minutes and its back to bloody spannering posts!
Anyway I raced an MX5 the other day in my 8 valve, he had a better line around the roundabout, but my foot was to the floor and I aint gonna back off, the grip felt good through the Michelins so I carried on caning it and got level exiting the bend, the look on his face when i passed him entering the straight was a classic! to be fair he tried to stay with me but at about 95 he realised he was beat.  My missus was laughing her ass off, she said when she looked into their car his other half was giving him a bollocking! whether that was cause he was getting his ass kicked or beacause she was telling him to slow down I have no idea! quality!
Racing tales anyone?

My mate has an escort cosworth tuned to 350BHP - now I know there is no way on Gods earth I am ever going to beat it but.....
We used to always drive the two cars in to town for a night out, and park in the same spot. He would always leave me for dead on the road in, but when it came to the town I knew a few short cuts that I had never told him about, so when he pulled up at the parking lot to find me sat there on the bonnet, week after week looking at my watch... well you can imagine the look on his face - not amused!
He still gets reminded that his Mighty Cossie used to regularly get an ass whooping from my little Cab ;D
I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture

I had a bit of driving fun with this guy in another MK3 Golf GTI 8v (red 3 dr - just like mine). Only difference was is that his was L Reg with 130k miles and mine was R Reg with 65k miles.

We blatted for a bit then got on to a straight and i pulled out about a 12 car gap! (put it this was - i couldnt clearly read his front numberplate anymore..) He pulled up along side at the traffic lights, we wind down windows 'b***** hell mate, what have you got under there'. 'nothing mate - standard'. Thats when the mileage and age thing came up. Shows what proper servicing and looking after your car can do.

Kinda reassured me that mine was in top condition...... ;D

Had the same experience with a Scooby I also knew a few short cuts and I ended getting a few cars infron of him. lol.  I was at the lights once behind a mg sports car you know the hair dressers one.  He beat some other guy off the lights and when it came to the next set I thought what the hell.  I looked to the right and saw him eyeing up for a race, lights went amber looked to my right on mg looked in my rear view mirror and there he was, he then backed off at 50. ha ha.

I have also raced David Blunkets son he has a 206 gti.  He pulled up along side me and goes mine is quicker than yours and went racing off I cought up and over took him, he then pulled up and the next lights and I shouted accross to him mine is a GTI too, cant repeat the reply I got.

I find that hard to believe! He must have been feeling in a generous mood - cabs are well know VR6 eaters ;)

No way mate  :-*  the cab was giving it full throttle, he weren't doing bad until i red lined it! 70mph in 2nd, 100mph in 3rd, what chance has a cab got? 8v no way!  :-* :-* :-*
