Digifant Tuners in Southampton or Hampshire ???
« on: 04 November 2005, 16:55 »
Ive just purchased an original 8V Golf GTI with a Digi engine.  Im trying to find a garage that know all about this type of engine and can ensure that is set-up correctly.

I have already put it on the rollers and it was doing 105bhp, which is on the money.  At this time it still had the original chip installed and was suffering with slight hesitation/lag.

So,  Ive now changed chips and the hesitation problem has been sorted, but I cant help but think/feel that the bottom end torque is down. (Its also had a full service inc, filters, plugs, oil, cambelt and water pump etc)

ALSO, when starting from cold it ticks over, but can sometimes misfire and pop (only slightly)  -  Is this normal?   Once the engine temp is up - everything seems to be ok with tick over.

Any advice would be great and where I can find a good tuner would be great.

Thanks.

see if you can get onto efi in fareham i think it is, they set my 205 gti up, very good place. is also realy well priced, £40 for an engine tune if it takes 10mins price is the same and 10 hours. only charge extra for parts and labour for fitting them.

tbh m8 if u want it setup do it yourself, i can talk you through the procedures to gain its best potential... its really a case of ensuring ur ign timing is spot on and all the timing marks line up perfectly to start with, then giving the inlet manifold a good clean out and the throttle body will help as the get gunged! altering the spring tension slightly in the afm will help with even greater response..

When you do get these on the rollers tbh there is little u can do other than timing and fueling at idle as the computer does the rest, its really a case of good clean running and good plugs filters cap etc then just get it where it should be, if it made 105hp its not far from wrong buit it should be 110-115 out the box so its falling short a bit.

Digifant is 112 in the books i believe but this is from the flywheel and would be less at the wheels. Also after 15 years or so they are likely to have lost a few horses. 105 sounds about right to me.
