Konis / Weitec's or ...... ?
« on: 02 November 2005, 18:41 »
I'm looking to spend roughly £400 on a lowered set up which has to be fairly forgiving as Brighton and Hove Council do not cater for lowered cars (i know this from my own experience and the g/f used to own a Mini Cooper), i've been looking at Konis £399 as i was told they give a reasonable ride plus there T/A  but have also been looking at Weitecs as they seem to be good quality ...

Its for a 16v with design 90's 6" all round and 195/40 tyres if that makes a difference dont want arch contact as dont want to modify archs or tyres  so looking at about -40mm

So please any ideas or recomends or better suggestions?

Thanks Dave

Cool so FK's are an option and not harsh?

Forgot to mention the offset - wheels 52, adaptors 25 so Et 27? Hope thats not going to cause me grief as i've got the smallest rim 6" and going with 40 profile tyres ...

Dont want to use just springs? you can go -40 on springs ok

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.

If your going for FK's only go for the top of the range models as they are made mainly of the KONI parts but a bit cheaper. But if you want quality, you get what you pay for!

Thats true, with suspension you get what you pay for. i had Koni adjustables on my old Astra GTE and they were awesome! Set them to hard and it out handled most things. Horrible ride tho!
-40 should be safe, ive just lowered mine on -60 springs (although its now -85) with standard shocks, it handles OK but not brilliant. if you use standard shocks like me then they wont last that long

Agree with you there Si. I got KONI fully adjustable coil overs and they are very very good! Not back breaking and good adjustment in dampness. But they are probably the most expensive. Glad i got them with my 1st golf and didnt have to buy them myself.

for the money your looking to spend I'd get the koni adjustable damper set-up, put a kit on my old fiesta and it could run rings round most things on them!

just don't put them straight on the hardest setting, it'll shake your nuts off and doesn't offer any more in handling... about 3 quarters on the front and just a lil bit softer on the back...that way it'll follow the front nice and progressively..comfy too
08.03.10 - 3, maybe 4 weeks, and I want my golf back on the road!
