how do stop my rear wiper??
« on: 30 October 2003, 19:24 »
Hi all, purchased my first Golf last weekend (tornado red 1990 8v) and I have a couple of questions.

How do I get my rear wiper to stop once I have started it   ??? . At the moment the only way I can get it to stop is to turn off the ignition, not a good idea when travling along the motorway :o.

Also, the top of the dipstick tube is broken (the red plastic end), can  just replace that or do I need to replace the entire tube? If so, how difficult is it? Any ideas about how much higher it makes it read on the dipstick so I can gauge my oil level until I fix it (it had a fresh service just before I got it and it hasn't gone down in 800 miles yet, but I would like to be on the safe side.

Final question, hwo do I reset the trip computer etc and is it normal for the outside temp to read -18C when blasting down the M4 on a cold morning?

Cheers

Craig  :)

To reset the computer u hold it in positions '1' or '2' and it should reset.

The dipstick tube (plastic bit) is a few ?'s from Volkswagen dealers and clips straight on.

id be wary of the plastic collar thing

i didnt have one on mine, got one, put it on and the oil  didnt event register on the dipstick!

then i gave to my mate for an oil change and he put 5.5ltr of oil into it for it to reach max on the dipstick :o

turns out i have the wrong dipstick!! get VAG to check the part# of your dipstick when you order the collar

alternativily just put 4.0ltrs in with every oil & filter and use it without the collar like i do!

Ha Ha Ha, I did this for a few days, but I was fortunate enough to have the original manual that came with my golf when I bought it. It tells you how to turn it off in there!!

I'm glad its not just me!! ;D I had the same "problem" with my scirocco but I just put it down as a wiring fault :-[. I have replace the colar thing (local VW breakers - city motors, was golf city motor, very good, fitted it for ?2!!) but I have a new problem for the wise ones here to ponder over. My loey beast has an intermitant miss fire. It can happen at any RPM, constant trottle, accelerating or at idle and it misses a beat. It only happens every 10 miles or so, but it is a little worrying. It is missing one of the dizzy cap springs (the cap is held on by a cable tie) but this is to be sorted next week when it is serviced as will a new fuel filter, thermostat (it aint git one at the minute) and a cam belt. What else should I be looking at?
It also loses a bit of water, but I cant see a leak, takes about a week(500 miles) for it to go from full to the warning light flashing.

thanks again

Craig
