MK3 8V ENGINE PROBLEM
« on: 27 October 2005, 22:27 »
Can somebody help me out please,i have a 1996 8v GTI.Over the past month or so, every so often my revs will drop down really low after changing into a lower gear, even to the point on two or three occasions where the engine has cut out completely, this has happened when the engine has been cold and also warm, this is not a constant problem as yet but it could well turn into one if i don't solve the problem

Have you tried cleaning the throttle valve yet? this gets coked up and is one of the biggest culprits.

As per above man, that should sort the problem.

If not you can always try cleaning all the lil bits and bos connected to it.

Thanks for the tips on this subject.I have eventually managed to get round to cleaning out the throttle valve and then spraying it withcarb cleaner, this has worked great and the car is back to its best and running like a dream.
