Car revs on its own ???
« on: 27 October 2005, 09:21 »
Hi another quick question, when I start my car (mk11 gti 8v 91) It idles at about 2.5-3000 revs ! once i have driven half a mile the engine will idle fine. However once the temp gets near the middle of the temp gauge (usually when i am stuck in traffic) it will start to rev itself over and over and over ..... goes between 1000 and 3000, never smooth just constantly reving itself, I have recently had the cold start valve changed would this be the source of this odd self reving weirdness  cheers

Sounds like the blue temp sender has failed. This sends coolant temp to ECU.
It is mounted on the front of the block, just off a coolant pipe flange.
Replacement can be had from dealer, GSF amoungst others.

dont use brake or carb cleaner in the ISV it will damage the internals.  Use petrol or white spirits :)
