A car called Christine…
« on: 13 October 2026, 10:04 »

I think my car has it in for me…

For no reason at all, it keeps applying the front collision detection automatic braking… there is nothing in front of me and it brakes harshly. I’ve nearly had a couple of folk into the back of me.

It’s booked in to the dealership for a diagnostic check, anyone else had this?

My 7.5 never used to false alarm on this, it’s really rather disconcerting!

Silly thing but have you checked the sensor? Dirt or cobwebs can have more of an impact than you might think. I've only had this a couple of times in four years of ownership one was when I was close to a parked car descending a hill, gave me a hell of a shock and another time it saved my ass when I wasn't paying attention.

Unfortunately it’s not possible to adjust the sensitivity on an 8.5. There are options to turn specific front assist elements on or off, but nothing for sensitivity. I’ll get it checked to see if there are any technical issues with it. If there are not, I’ll see if I can get my OBD11 to turn off a couple of the options permanently.
