OK, I have had chance to have look now. It turns out there were a mass of ABS, TPMS, ACC and steering fault codes stored, I assume from having the battery disconnected for a few days. When I connected the car back up I had to do the old moving the steering from lock to lock trick to get some dash warning lights to go out. I've cleared all the fault codes and normal behaviour has resumed.
Incidentally, I found the ability in OBDEleven to read the live data from the clutch pedal position sensor. Mine reads from about 9% (un-depressed) to about 90% (fully depressed). Google AI suggests that was normal, but who knows? There is also the the option to do a clutch adaptation in the engine module section, but it was marked as unavaialble for me. Maybe that's a DSG thing?...
