Dashboard Noise!!

I was wondering if anyone can help me??  I have what i can only describe as a little knocking noise like something tapping coming from behind the glovebox area.  I have taken the glovebox out but can't see anything, all there is beind there is the heating and climate stuff i think.
The funny thing is that it knocks when i am coming to a stop like at traffic ligts etc or sometimes when the car is stationary and idleing and also when i start the car.
Has anyone else had a similar problem and if so what was it as it is driving me nuts!!! Could it be something in the engine bay which i can hear through the bulk head.

It could be a worn engine mounting allowing you engine to rock slightly

hey chappers, i to have experienced this noise. to me it sounds like its coming from the passenger footwell, i thought it may be a pipe of some description knocking as fluid is pumped through it but i have no idea what it might be

I have tracked the noise down and it is coming from the Fan unit which sits behind the glovebox.  I have spoken to a VW garage and they tell me that there is some kind of air recirculation valve inside the unit and the mechanism can produce this noise.
If you press the air recirculation button on the climate unit when it is making the noise it should stop or become slofter.  Could you try this and let me know what happens??

Hey guys at least you dnt have a mark 2, my valver's interior is full of creaks and rattles, just turn the stereo up so yu cant hear it!, i dn notice the noises anymore, just accept that they are there!!
