slight Lumpy idle

Good afternoon , Just recently got my hands on a lovely mk6 edition 35 2012, loving the car however i have noticed especially when cold that the car has a slight lumpy idle, reading on different platforms it could be due to a number of issues the car has 79k on the clock and a f/s/h just wondering if anyone has any advice or recommendations, also what fuel are people using?

Congrats on the Edition 35 as a 35 owner myself, I know how special they are. A slight lumpy idle when cold isn't uncommon on these, especially as they're direct-injection engines and can be a bit rougher until they're up to temperature.

At 79k miles, a few things I'd be looking at are:

* Spark plugs and coil packs (worth checking when they were last replaced)
* Carbon build-up on the intake valves, which can cause a slightly uneven idle
* PCV valve condition
* Any vacuum leaks
* Fuel injector condition

If it's only for the first minute or so from a cold start and then settles down completely, I wouldn't panic. If you've got access to VCDS/OBDeleven, it would be worth checking for any stored fault codes and looking at misfire counts on each cylinder.

As for fuel, run 99 RON (Tesco Momentum or Shell V-Power) as the Edition 35 was designed around higher-octane fuel. It'll run on 95, but many find it feels a bit smoother and more responsive on 99.

Also, at that mileage I would expect the cam follower to have been replaced.

Thanks so much for the reply , i am no stranger vo vws, but this is my first 35 edition having owned a mk5 as well i appreciate they share a lot of similar components can i ask what coil packs you would recommend along with spark plugs, and do you have any of those front grill edition 35 badges .

Honestly, I would recommend only using OEM, None of this R8 crap or APR coils you don't need any of that crap unless you are running big power. its all a gimmick.

Just go to VW, parts departments and order OEM if they are due.
