Leaking Oil Pan
« on: 14 February 2026, 18:58 »
Evening all,

Had the car up on stands today, doing the brakes all round, and noticed a wet area, on the rear section of the oil pan, near to the level sensor. Bolt heads were wet with oil but not dripping.

Couldn't pin point the area of leak, but, going forward is the concensus that the pan gets swaped out for a metal one (ECS kit is £118!!) or pull the plastic one off, and re-seal it? or swap for another plastic one?

It doesn't look cracked, but equally needs some sort of attention.

I guess given it's age and mileage, the seal is likely to have gone, 2016 with 113k, so is an OEM plastic one, perfectly fine?

Thanks.

I had this. Changed to genuine VW metal one. If you do swap make sure they follow factory instructions to torque up as they are different to plastic one.

I've ordered a steel kit, with the correct bolts and sealant tonight.
From the videos i've watched, its 8nm and then 45 degree turn, for all 20 bolts.

Guessing thats the right procedure, for the steel ones??
