Wet boot and drain in hatch question.
« on: 04 February 2026, 19:36 »

My daughter has a spare tyre well full of water in her Mk 7 diesel Golf. Looked at the usual suspects and the drain tube in the centre of the hatch is missing so have ordered a new one. But two questions if I may. The spare wheel well had at least an inch of water in it. Can that all come from just a misplaced drain tube? And how does the water get from the tailgate into the boot?

I am obviously going to fix it, but concerned it may be the rear vents too. Looking for some reassurance that the drain can cause a very wet boot. He writes hopefully...

Yeah this can lead to water in the boot. But it could be the rear vents too!

The cause might also be perished seals around the rear light clusters.
