Your car looks fab Joe, I love the paint and wheel combo. Must have been a tough decision to order the ED50.

Great to hear Joe I can see your point re your position coming from a clubsport, mine is a lot different going back to GTIs from years of family wagons aka Allspace Tiguans. Good to see one with performance pack on anyway and I'd say in your case the true difference will be when driving.

Rest assured, coming from the Tiguan’s etc, you will be blown away!

Thanks Paul
Yeah the current car is so nice, it doesn’t make any logical sense to change it. But I justified it to myself somehow. I’ve been in GTI’s for 20 years and I always really wanted an “edition” model but the timing was never right on previous occasions. And seeing as this could be the last ICE Edition GTI, I said it’s now or never.

Hey garwen, this is now my car delivery is Tuesday/Wednesday next week number 19  I’ve ordered the AV steering wheel and will be putting the black warmenau’s on for summer and the red alloys will be winter wheels,

Apologies for going off topic, but something to consider with your plan to run the red / black Queenstown alloys on your car during the winter months;
  • The red / black Queenstown alloys are diamond cut (the finish on the red sections is described as a red glaze by VW - essentially a red tinted lacquer over the diamond cut sections). The finish on diamond cut alloys isn’t renowned for good durability when subjected to winter road conditions (road salt, grit, snow, slush) and they often succumb to unsightly white worm corrosion.
  • To get rid of white worm corrosion requires a professional refurb which probably costs in the region of £125 + VAT per wheel these days, and AFAIK not all alloy wheel refurb companies will do the colour tinted lacquer finish.
The black Warmenau’s have a painted / powder coated finish which is highly durable and should be able to withstand winter road use without issue. If I had a two sets of alloys - one set with a diamond cut finish and the other with a painted / powder coated finish - I know which I would fit for winter use and it wouldn’t be the diamond cut set.

As a matter of interest, many aftermarket alloy wheel retailers will include a set of filters on their websites to help narrow down the search criteria. If one of those filters is ‘winter use’ then it’s highly unlikely any selection of alloys intended for winter use will include diamond cut wheels because of the poor durability of finish when compared to alloys with a painted / powder coated finish.

Ah good advice! Maybe I’ll not use them in the winter then! Maybe just for shows

Very nice!

Out of interest did you buy the wheels separately via the dealer or elsewhere? And if you don’t mind me asking how much are they?

I’ve not ordered the alloys yet but they at £3499 I believe, from vwuk

Congrats to all picking up their brand new shiny Edition 50s.

Pooksta - The darken taillights and badge on the Tornado Red looking cracking, as does the alcantara steering wheel! What did you get done detailing wise?

Garwen - has your dealer called you back to get you plaque added post taking delivery of your car?

What's people's thoughts on running summer (Potenza Race) and Winter 18 inch tyre set up. I don't think you'll be able to extract much in the deep winter days with the semis. I would prefer VW OEM 18s but there was no option when ordered unlike in the EU. Always liked the Golf R's Pretoria alloy. Perhaps I can run 18 inch pretoria in sliver in the winter If I can find some at reasonable price, and the 19s Warmenau on sliver in the summer.

As for my order, it's currently stuck in the gulag. Sept build slot now, but unconfirmed build slot, so likely Oct/Nov Delivery.

I would actually consider a winter variant for the edition 50 also, and like yourself I'd like to stick with an oem option, satori's are around awhile now so even
If a decent second hand pair became available it could be an
Option.
I will be using mine daily so it's definitely something to consider in the winter months.
Also re the details has anyone gone the PPF route I was considering it but the detailed I always use doesn't do it, so I'm just considering a G-Tecnik coating all over crystal serum ultra/exov5 and wheels off coated with c5 wheel armour along with smart fabric and glass coating. I'd be interested in people's thoughts on the PPF, have they experience.

I’d consider a “winter wheels” option too, and also would much prefer to stay OEM. Genuine OEM wheels from VW are stupid money (I had to replace an Estoril on my MK8, it was painful on the wallet). If I saw a decent used set of Pretoria’s or something along those lines I’d consider them.

@Donster, my current car has the front end PPF’d and some other “high touch” bits such as the B pillars and rear bumper lip. I’ll obviously not have gotten proper value from it given I am trading the car again but if this is a car you see yourself keeping for many years, then I’d strongly recommend it. The coatings can be a great addition but no coating is going to prevent stone chips, minor scratches etc. The front end of my car is as-new. PPF is costly but very effective.

I also had it ceramic coated. Including the glass, which is very effective, water sheets off, I barely need to use the wipers.
