My water pump is leaking slightly I have had to top up 3 times.
Took the car into VW as I have all in warranty ,they sent pictures off to Vw ,they have requested more pictures.
The car is 1 owner from new full Vw service history,23000 miles.
I am getting the feeling they are going to try and get out of paying for it.
The technician said it was the plastic part that was leaking,I understand if I want to replace the thermostat and belt I will have to pay for this.
Have any other members had this reaction from a warranty claim.
Yes. They tried it with me last year when a leak was identified by the technician on my annual service.
The service advisor suggested I “ keep an eye on it “, I then spoke to the service manager who said something like “ it might not be done under warranty “ and likened it to misting from shocks.
I let her know that I wasn’t going to accept it- the fault has been identified by her own technician, it is not a serviceable item like a shock or a brake pad, and they will have to replace it.
She understood that I wouldn’t accept it- so they presumably went back to VW as said as much.
The next morning they called me to say it would be done under warranty.
I get the impression vw have lost so much money on these claims that they’ve sent a directive to dealers that claims will only be accepted if there’s a significant leak.
It is true that some of these are such slow leaks that the fluid loss is barely noticeable- and you could probably manage it for years-but really VW should be doing better.
Oh, and yes- I think I had the same response regarding water pump- if it’s working they don’t replace. I didn’t argue that point- as long as the repair is done that was satisfactory for me.
Anyway, I didn’t renew my service plan- and I’m very pleased I didn’t.
