Parking up with the nuggett
« on: 18 October 2025, 17:03 »
A couple of wks in and I'm still getting used to the nugget.  When pulling up on my drive at home (I tend to reverse in , and the drive has a bit of a slope) I am moving the nugget from R to N and then to P before I turn off the engine.  Thing is, when I move to N the Auto Handbrake disengages every time, meaning if I left my foot off of the footbreak at that point the car rolls back.  Is this by design, or can I change this???  Does everyone else do similar when parking/switching off the engine, or do you just hit the off switch?

Just hit the off switch. Parking brake engages automatically. I rarely press the P button unless I’m stopped for a few moments or something. Never when parking up.

Also make sure auto hold is on. With mine, with auto hold on, switching into neutral puts the handbrake into fully on (red icon) rather than hold mode (green icon).

My driveway has a slope too, so I reverse up, apply handbrake, select Neutral, then I release the footbrake to let the handbrake take the tension, then select Park and engine off.

If I don't let the handbrake take the tension it "clonks" net time I select Drive.

That’s an interesting one, I’ve also had the occasional clonk either selecting drive, but also when I turn off the car and the parking brake engages. Wasn’t sure if it was a potential problem brewing, but could just be my lack of handbrake use as I always rely on the car to do it for me when I turn it off (laziness!). I’ll try using the handbrake like a manual one and see if it improves, I also reverse up a slope for the driveway, interesting to read how other manage this.
