Mk8 clubsport seats
« on: 09 October 2025, 18:12 »
Hi there just a general question about the mk8 clubsport
Does anybody find the seats really uncomfortable after a bit of a drive anywhere?

At first I was finding some hip pain but I get that a lot anyway. But I've done a few long trips now and found them to be good. The only issue (of the first world type) is that the material is so grippy that my trousers feel glued down so if I do move around, my trousers can get twisted which gets a tad uncomfortable

No, I find the Clubsport seats are probably the most comfortable I’ve had in a car for a very long time! Maybe it’s some fine tuning on the adjustment you need?

I think the seats are fantastic. Even after long journeys there are no issues for me and on shorter journeys I find the seats are a very comfortable place to be, just the right amount of support and comfort.
Maybe if you've come from a luxurious previous car or a massive SUV with armchair seats it might seem uncomfortable but mine are great.

Wasn't a BMW you had before was it?

If so then it's because you are used to having to contort yourself for that and that's not how a vw is set up.

Try thinking about your position relative to the controls and correct any twisting you might be used to.

I had dozens of other cars before a mk7 and my first mk7 (and since) was absolute comfort compared to anything I had before.

Absolutely agree with Fred here.  The CS seats are fantastic.  I did 2,000 miles on a Euro trip in a fortnight without any pain or discomfort.   Now have a 3 series BMW and just can't get comfortable at all.

I must say, there's something about my MK8.5 seat that doesn't feel quite right. I can't put my finger on it but it doesn't seem as comfortable as my MK8 was. Which doesn't make sense as they're exactly the same... or appear to be!

Something feels slightly off about the backrest, I can feel something move or creak a bit just below my shoulders (around where the GTI badge is on the backrest).

Perhaps get someone else to drive you around and see if the passenger seat is the same? It may just help rule in or out a fault.

It took a little while with minor adjustments but when I got the Clubsport seats into the right position I found them to be one of best seats I've ever had.

The only strange thing I had was that every time I get back in the car I find myself turning up the backrest a tiny bit.
I don't know if this was my imagination or a very, very slight movement in the backrest when I'm in the seat.

My previous Mk8 GTI had the backrest replaced as it used to recline by itself, I put some masking tape around the adjustment knob and also on the plastic next to it on the seat, then marked it to confirm movement, it moved pretty fast on that car so didn’t really need to mark it, but it helped with the warranty claim, I thought my 8.5 was doing the same when I first got it, but it I was either imagining it or it stopped, as I’ve not adjusted the backrest since then.
