Dash Cam Options?
« on: 29 September 2025, 20:04 »
I have been thinking about getting a dash cam for some time and how considering getting it done. The only issue is which one? Literally seems a minefield when you look online, but for me it has to be OEM style fitment and hardwired as I don’t want it to be unsightly and go against my OCD! What are fellow mk7.5 drivers using? Appreciate some help.

I fitted a Garmin Mini2 dashcam to my MK8 GTi, very discreet:

I haven't got around to fitting a dash cam, but I considered this, but it looked like a bit of naff app, compared to a Garmin or similar.

Have you fitted it, how are you finding it?

I've hardwired a fitcamx with rear camera to a dash cam battery so I can have parking mode without impacting my car battery. . literally can't even see the front one is there. It's not the most sophisticated software/app but the footage is decent. Would recommend.

No, you can either wire to your rain sensor but then you don't get parking mode, or you can hard wire it to your fuse board for parking mode.

But I hard wired it to a separate standalone dash cam battery that I put under the front seat. That battery is then wired to the fuse board and charges when the car is on.

I've had a Blackvue 560 in mine, it's hard wired in with sentry mode. It's very small so I've been able to hide it behind the rear view mirror.

I actually never see it and some passengers don't see it either, they usually only comment what's that noise when it starts up.

I have had the Thinkware F800 for a few years now on the front with absolutely no issues. I have a very old FineVu CR-500HD for the rear. The front has parking mode and it has saved the cost of the camera and more by catching cars that clip next doors car then driving off.

The camera can not be seen from the outside, I have positioned it so buttons are just accessible (rarely needed) behind the rear view mirror on the passenger side.
