In my experience, with diesel cars of any age, the oil turns black almost immediately once it’s started up after an oil change.

Even with petrol cars, there’s probably a fair amount of oil left in the system, whether it’s drained or extracted, for the new oil to appear discoloured almost immediately.

What car was it?
It doesn’t sound to me that your dealer didn’t do the job- the very fact that the level was lower suggests that they had changed it.

A 2020 Polo GTI+ with a 2.0 litre EA888 petrol engine. It’s the first time I’ve ever had to top up the oil in any car I’ve owned almost immediately after it’s been serviced and the only time I’ve ever had to add oil to the Polo GTI+.

Yeah, the oil should look clean on a fairly new petrol car.

It was probably a slapdash job- extract or drain as much as they could be bothered with, then refill to roughly the right level

Slightly different prices than my local, brake fluid cheaper but diff oil service is more. How old is your car? Brake fluid is 2 year interval but diff oil service is every 3 years.

My clubsport is a 73 0late Nov 2023 reg date
According to vw performance models are every 2 years with no mileage  ( was checked by a friend that work at vw )
Better done than them saying no warranty on the front diff

Mine was flagged at 2 years on my 8 clubby, asked the dealer who said it was an error, service is 3 years on them. Was certainly also the case on my 7.5PP. There is a mileage limit which I think is 45000 or so, but not sure for certain on that as I’ve not gone near it.

I asked a vw specialist for when it's due and cost they said 3 years or 30k
Rather it done and there no warranty issue down the line of ownership
