Rear Door Lock Actuator Replacement
« on: 03 September 2025, 12:00 »
Hi everyone, hope you are all well.

Four years ago, I moved to the UK and I brought my car from Canada. Recently someone hit my door and I found it a lot cheaper and easier to replace the door rather than have it repaired. So now I have a completely new original OEM replacement door from a donor car.

One of the issues I did not foresee is that the door lock actuators are coded and sometimes different in different regions; example: NAR vs RoW, or LHD vs RHD.

My specific case my car is LHD from Canada (NAR). The donor door is RHD from the UK (RoW).

After some research, it appears that it is a lot easier just to replace door lock actuator, as recoding it may not be possible due to micro switches within the locks from revisions that were made.

With that all said, has anyone ever replaced the door lock actuator module in there MK6GTI from 2011 or 10, where the inner black carrier panel is moulded plastic? Also, i’m very interested to know whether or not the window or the window regulator or anything with regarding the window needs to be touched as I would prefer to not have to mess with the window regulator at all or window positioning.

Many thanks to anyone that can help?

Worst case scenario, I take it to a repair shop and have them replace the actuator, with the original from my NAR door.
