TCR Owners - Seat Upgrade?
« on: 26 July 2025, 10:18 »

I saw these via Recaro Automotive, they were produced by AMX Performance in Poland. The seats are Sportster CS and have been refinished in TCR diamond stripe cloth.

Hat tip to grey_tcr for commissioning them. I'm not sure what the side bolster material is, it looks like alcantara / race tex but it looks OE. Really great work.

That looks phenomenal- wish they offered something like this from factory. How much did it cost? Dare I ask...

AMX came back to me and quoted £4,520 for a pair of seats. Brackets and sliders, heating, airbags and custom upholstery. Delivery cost to the UK was priced between £200-£450 depending on courier and service used. 100% bespoke - you can configure any element to your taste and preference.

I had a quick look on CP Performance and they quote £2,520 (airbag and heating filaments drive the price up by nearly £1k).

You'd be liable for 20% VAT I expect when they arrive and I'm sure a courier would add an administration fee as they love to do. All in, I suspect it would come in at around £6k for the pair.

Which isn't too bad (stay with me) considered:

- VW will charge you about £23k for two replacement seats for a Clubsport S and that doesn't include labour as they arrive as parts. That's estimated at £2k. This post prompted me to check current prices and I could smell the reluctance and apathy coming off the parts guy in waves as he had to order every single component individually to price.

- Porsche offer a 3D printed seat insert for 918 Spyder CFRP seats (I have them in my GT4). I really liked the look of the seat inserts and like an idiot, made the call. I immediately regretted it. They wanted £2,245. That's for the seat cushion and backrest. Per seat. The conversation started to feel like some sort of comedy sketch and I was waiting to be told that stitching wasn't included and if I wanted to fit them, attachment points would be additional cost. They do look great but it's a staggering amount as a relative comparison.

Stunning looking seat, and would love a set myself. I would suggest it you done it yourself and locate a seat of Recaro CS seats of eBay or the likes and took them to be reupholstered and get some rails make for them, you should be able to get it all for approx £3500. Still a lot of money, but would suggest you will get your money back if you decided to sell them.

I see your point. 23k for Clubsport S seats is ludicrous. The 918 Bucket situation is a bit different in my eyes. Porsche tax versus VW tax! Either way 4.5k for a pair of seats is too much for my tight arse  They are mega though...

To be honest, I've got better things to spend my money on right now and I saw them and thought they looked really special. Bit like the work that Justin Placek does for Porsche after market. Judging by the reaction to the pictures, I'm not alone.

Maybe we need to do a group buy?

I think VW are suffering an identity crisis when it comes to their pricing. I know what you mean about Porsche tax but you get to the point with them where you get fed up being violated and don't want to play anymore.

Given that I have no interest in anything on the market at the moment, the seats may be a relatively small cost to upgrade the car for the next 5 years. Man maths in action.

At £23,000 why not just buy a whole car, ED40 with the optional seats and swap?
