Auto braking when reversing
« on: 29 June 2025, 08:56 »
Hi all, is there any way to reduce the sensitivity of the automatic braking when reversing. Issue I have is when reversing down my drive, passing traffic on the road sets off the warning beeps etc which is fine, however now and again it will slam the brakes on, even though I’m literally going at 2 mph and still about 10 feet from the road. Just feels very over sensitive to me. Have looked the infotainment system and can’t see anything to adjust. Any help appreciated.

Nope, it's basically going to brake if an object crosses the red line on the camera display.

I think one of the buttons on the park assist screen let's you cancel it though for each time you reverse

Mind you it could also be the cross traffic detection system. Not much you can do about that one, if it sees a vehicle and you are going backwards it will brake if you don't

I find it over sensitive. You get a fright when it happens. You have to switch it of everytime you get in the car. I usually switch it off when I put the car in reverse as the settings option is on the screen when the camera appears.

If you have the latest iteration of the system which includes park assist pro with the sensors on the very side of the bumpers, then it will be more sensitive than the slightly earlier models such as my 8.5 which didn’t have park assist pro as standard, on my 2020 BMW M135i it was equally as sensitive as you describe, but in that car it was possible to select to have the side sensors switched off so that it just used the four rear sensors for the auto braking, could there be a setting somewhere to do the same?? Probably not if you’ve already checked. but perhaps you could ask VW to adjust the sensitivity, adjustment of the parking sensors was certainly possible on my mk7 as I did so myself with VCDS, so wouldn’t hurt to ask them, especially as you feel they are over sensitive.

I don't have park assist pro on mine, but all Mk8.x's have rear cross traffic detection. It doesn't use ultra sonic parking sensors, it uses radar...

Yes indeed. But I don’t think cross traffic alert would react to parked cars like that, unless of course, the cars were moving and I’ve misunderstood.
