I'm just wondering if the owner of the above vehicle is on this site, ive received a V5C for this vehicle, after enquiring with DVLA about it, as it has sat for a very Long time on the road near me, however I wasn't expecting a V5C to come through the door, I though maybe contact details for the owner so I make an offer.

As the V5C isn't legal ownership of vehicle I didn't want any 'oi thats my car', after I'd spent money getting it on the road.

and also, I have no keys, so I need to be able to contact them in regards to either taking my name off the V5C or giving me the keys..

** UPDATE** Re: Y8TJL
so....

....bit of update, after receiving a logbook for a car I didn't own, i had to get it moved off the road before it was clamped and I became responsible for the fines that went with it.

I managed to get the car open with the hand of a friend of mine (locksmith) we rummaged through the car and found some details for the owner, a phone number. I called the number and he answered! I told about the logbook situation and he was as surprised as me! he hadn't even been asked if he was happy for it to go into my name, very dodgy!!

Anyways, he did want to sell, he said he wanted £100 and his number plate off it, which I was very happy with....

So.. I have a V6 4motion, with a clutch problem, concentric unit inside the box, and an coolant leak...and most probably amongst other things, for £100

I was thinking of breaking it, but...I can't resist a project, albeit a VERY a long term one...I still haven't completely finished the last one I started.

So your openly admitting you and your locksmith mate have committed a criminal offence and you think that’s acceptable 😂

Well, I needed to either sign the car back over to him, or buy it…he didn’t want the car anyway, and it was only a matter of time before it was taken and crushed. I’ve done my duty to the VW world and kept another from a untimely death lol

A lot of people had there eye on it, a few people have already offered me money for it. Not been through it all yet, but with Bank Holiday coming up, maybe an ideal time to strip it out.

Again if you hadn’t committed another criminal offence by obtaining a logbook fraudulently the car would never had been in your name and the vw community doesn’t need more thief’s as that’s basically what you’d have done if you didn’t get it touch with previous owner as you applied for the logbook before any contact

Now now, you obviously didn’t read the OP, I didn’t apply for a logbook, I wrote a letter to DVLA, asking them to pass my details on to him (not illegal)

I never paid for a logbook, neither did I fill in a V62, just a letter stating it’d sat there for months, I wanted to buy it, and if it was possible to send my details on to the guy, that isn’t a criminal offence.

I didn’t expect anything back, let alone a V5C.

Now don’t be a dick about this mate,  put yourself in my position….

1. You wrote a letter giving your details and hoping to hear something back from the owner! (Not illegal)
2. You receive a V5C back, you are now the registered keeper (RK) (not the owner, as the V5C states, just the person responsible for taxing it)
3. It’s sat on a public road, no Tax, no MOT. If that thing gets clamped, you are the RK and are responsible for the fines that’s go with it.

Would you have just left it there?

I had to get in it to make the contact with the guy, I found a phone number and called him the following day and spoke to him, he was surprised as I was that DVLA messed up and didn’t even contact him to let have my details. If he had said, no I want it, I’d have put the car back Into his name and that would have been that.

There was no damage to the locks, glass or anything. Instead he said he wanted something for it, which  I was obviously happy to sort out, he told me where to get the key from, (his mates) and I’ve also paid to take the private plate off it for him, again not the work of a thief!

All the calls were recorded and dealt with through WhatsApp. Again not the work Of a thief,

I’m 42yrs of age, a husband, a dad to 2 girls, and a business owner! One thing I am not is a thief!!! I’ve done everything properly!

Don’t think you’ve done everything legally as you had no idea who’s car it was so if a logbook just appears you should have contacted dvla again to correct the issue

And you never knew if the owners contact details would have been in the car to justify opening a lock fast place again a criminal offence

And how would you feel if someone applied for contact information for your car and ended up with a log book  and just thought hey let’s break in see if we can find more details about the owner

ah, you are one of those people who are never wrong. I get it now. You do you, and I'll do me.

Its all worked out nicely for both parties, Myself and the NOW PREVIOUS Owner, we are both happy with the outcome.

if you aren't happy with what ive done, call the police, in fact, just do it, my company name is at the bottom of this post, I'll expect a visit within a few days.
