I think I can imagine what issue your having with the brake / bell centres, not just brake dust but possibly some form of reaction from chemicals like brake fluid maybe, cleaning fluids etc? Aside from brake dust, the brakes can also react and rust if chemicals including cleaning ones are on the rotor if they are hot, and then that area starts to rust as time goes on.

It doesn't help that the coating VW or the brake manufactures use is extremely thin if there at all. the best discs I had previously were from Brembo, proper anthracite coating on the centres and I never had an issue. Most VAG brakes rust, and in my opinion makes a nice car look a bit pants in that department!

I had mine cleaned up and re-painted, I had the rust issue on the centres which you might possibly have. I'll try to dig out a photo of before and after later and post it on here. I changed my wheels from the Adeleade's to a more open spoked design, and it became even more apparent, not great with a new set of wheels!

This is a pic of my Clubby’s brakes after a road trip when it was about 9 months old showing how the brake dust collects in the bell’s dimples.
The bell is alloy (I think!) so won’t rust unlike the steel rear discs.

Here’s my before and after photos, I think my car had some sort of harsh wheel cleaner used by the previous owner which reacted with the paint:

Yes they look smart now, exactly what mine are like in the before pics.
I would change to Brembo or some other manufacturer but it seems impossible to get aftermarket ones for the front with them been 357mm, i have even had Pagid in the past on previous cars and they stayed looking like new in the centre.

Very impressive transformation Beebopper, the before pics look like they had been cleaned with xenomorph acid.

Thanks both, it’s made a word of difference as the car overall is pretty mint, the discs really let it down. I could find aftermarket rears but not fronts, look like Vw only I think. Steph I hope you get yours sorted, be interesting to see what yours are like if you have a pic.

Yep, 357mm, and two piece discs too so won’t be cheap.

I had OEM front discs and pads fitted on my CS 45 before I bought it. I have a receipt for €721, that was including 15% trade discount.

Just out of interest how many miles roughly do you get out of discs and pads, think I might be crying at these prices coming from a Fiesta ST!!

Depends how aggressive you are on the brakes...

I'd guess maybe every 30k for me.
